I would like to thank all of you for putting your trust and confidence in me to lead the Georgia jurisdiction into the future. I pray that the Lord guides us toward the world our founder, the venerable Fr Michael J. McGivney envisioned.
I’d also like to congratulate our Immediate Past State Deputy, Brother Mark McMullen for his leadership successful tenure where he attained the unprecedented “Pinnacle” level of the Circle of Honor for both of his years as State Deputy. This is truly an accomplishment that few have enjoyed. His leadership raised our jurisdiction to a level we should ALL be proud of.
Part of our charter, as knights, is to grow the order & fulfill the vision of our founder. The Georgia Jurisdiction has become the standard the order uses to measure success. All of us should be proud of that accomplishment. However; we have a new set of goals to reach. I have no doubt that we will, again, show our order that Georgia fully understands and lives the principals of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.
With the new fraternal year comes a new set of challenges. We must prepare for a busy and eventful Year. At the Georgia State meeting I talked about making us, as an order, more visible. I linked our visibility to the meaningful programs our councils perform. That is no more evident than right now. A shift in the normal paradigm of the Knights of Columbus is taking place. Building the Domestic Church is becoming the standard for our order. We must assimilate our programs into the ministries of our parishes. We, as leaders and members, should be putting together our schedules for the upcoming year that will produce Parish ministry based programs that will inspire our current members and spark enough interest in non members that they will want to be a part of what we do. This is the time to make our programs the new standard for recruitment. Talk with your pastors & parish councils to see what needs to be accomplished within your parishes. Then, tailor your programs to align with parish goals. When we do that, everyone will be a winner and Fr. McGivney’s vision will be realized. Our parishes will see exactly how valuable we are, & our non knights will see where they can best serve their parish and their faith. Make the Georgia Knights the “GO-TO” organization when our parish needs support. Show our faith community that Charity is the first and foremost principle of our fraternal community. Become ONE with the Church.
